When should you visit Phuket?
The best time to visit Phuket is roughly December to March, with February the strongest balance of reliable sunshine, calm seas and manageable humidity. April becomes very hot, while May to October is the southwest monsoon period with more rain and rougher seas. The reward for travelling in the wet season is lower demand, cheaper rates and occasional spectacular sunny stretches.
My recommendation
February
February is the cleanest all-round month for Phuket: the northeast monsoon has usually delivered the dry-season pattern, seas are calmer, humidity is manageable and beach conditions are excellent. January and March are close behind, with March warmer and gradually more humid.

Plan around
What to know before you book
- Christmas & New Year
- Peak beach-season demand. Resort prices rise sharply.
- Songkran
- Thailand's New Year water festival is huge and fun, but it can create transport disruption and higher domestic demand.
- Southwest monsoon
- Rainfall and sea conditions become more variable. Red flags can restrict swimming and boat trips.
- Vegetarian Festival
- Dates follow the lunar calendar and vary by year. Phuket's Vegetarian Festival is a major cultural event and can create intense local activity.
- Loy Krathong
- Dates vary by lunar calendar. Evening celebrations take place around waterways and beaches.
