When should you visit Osaka?
Weather, crowds, prices and events for all twelve months — and one clear recommendation.
My recommendation
October
Sunny, dry, low-humidity days with genuinely comfortable crowds — none of spring’s blossom crush or autumn’s foliage rush, and softer prices than either.
Least crowded
June
Rainy season keeps visitor numbers at their lowest of the year.
Best weather
May
Near-perfect temperatures, wisteria and azaleas in bloom, without April’s cherry-blossom crowds.
Best value
January
The cheapest month of the year to be here.

Plan around
What to know before you book
- Cherry blossom season (hanami)
- Osaka Castle Park and the Okawa riverside paths get packed, and this is the single most expensive stretch of the year — book 2-3 months ahead if these dates matter to you.
- Golden Week
- A cluster of national holidays sends domestic travelers everywhere at once; trains and hotels book solid across the whole country, not just Osaka.
- Tenjin Matsuri
- One of Japan’s three greatest festivals — a river procession and huge fireworks over the Okawa. Spectacular if you’re here for it, but riverside areas get extremely crowded and hot.
